Jen Millar, RTC
Youth, Family & EMDR Therapist
About Jen.
Jen's focus in her practice is counselling for children and adolescents providing a nurturing space for individuals to explore their feelings and challenges. Growing up can be an overwhelming experience for children, as they navigate complex emotions, social pressures, and the transition to adulthood. At times, their struggles may feel magnified, making it difficult for them to see a way forward.
Passionate about equipping parents with the tools they need to support their children during these pivotal years, Jen emphasizes the importance of open communication and active listening, encouraging parents to create a safe environment where their children feel heard and validated. By fostering understanding and connection, families can work together to face challenges head-on.
In addition to her work with young people, Jen also supports individuals struggling with stress, anxiety, and the tendency to catastrophize their circumstances. She understands how unresolved childhood trauma can impact mental health in adulthood, leading to feelings of overwhelm and fear. Through evidence-based techniques such as EMDR, Jen helps clients reframe their thoughts and develop coping strategies, empowering them to reclaim their lives and navigate their emotions with resilience. Her approach emphasizes healing from past experiences while building a foundation for a healthier future.

About Your Child.
Your child is experiencing some challenges that you realize are beyond your knowledge. These could be school related, or peer related. A kid's life can be pretty challenging especially when they get into school, around their peers, and start learning to exist in a completely different environment than the one at home. Your child may have had something happen to them, or lost someone they love. One of the best things you can do for your child is to show them it's okay to ask for help when you're struggling. It's okay to talk to someone about those struggles.
Jen does work with adults as well, so if you feel like you would connect with her, don't hesitate to reach out and book a free consultation!
EMDR
Jen offers Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help both adults and children heal from trauma, emotional challenges, and distressing memories. Rather than relying on traditional eye movements, Jen uses TheraTappers and audio bilateral stimulation to activate both sides of the brain, facilitating memory processing in a way that is effective, comfortable, and tailored to each client’s needs.
For adults, Jen uses EMDR to address the root causes of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other emotional struggles. By reprocessing memories and emotional blocks, EMDR helps reduce their intensity, enabling clients to find peace, emotional balance, and resilience.
For children, Jen tailors the EMDR process to be developmentally appropriate, using both TheraTappers and creative techniques such as drawing, storytelling, and play. These methods engage children in the healing process and provide them with emotional tools to process difficult emotions or traumatic experiences in a safe, supportive way.
